Application process open for Ulster University/GPA Scholarships
Applications are now being accepted from Gaelic Players Association (GPA) members for four fully funded post-graduate scholarships available at Ulster University (UU) for the forthcoming academic year. This will be the fourth year that inter-county players can avail of this support through the players’ body and the university.
The closing date for applications is Monday, August 2nd but potential applicants are urged to apply early to the GPA’s Education Manager Karen Thorpe – karen@gaelicplayers.com.
To mark the continuation of the partnership current inter-county players and UU students Lauren Clarke (Down), Shea Shannon (Antrim) and Ben McCarron (Derry) along with GPA Interim CEO Ciarán Barr and UU’s Head of Sports Services Nigel Dobson gathered at the Ulster University Sports Complex, Jordanstown.
Speaking to mark the opening of the application process Dr John Farrell, Ulster University GAA President said; “We are delighted to continue our partnership with the GPA. High level sports achievement and academic achievement are intrinsically linked, and our previous scholarship recipients have attained great success in their both their chosen courses and sports. At Ulster University we are keen to ensure that we provide an environment that allows players to thrive on and off the field of play.”
Speaking on behalf of the GPA Ciarán Barr said; “We could not support the development of our members off the pitch were it not for the partnerships we have built with educational institutions across the island. We are extremely grateful to the team at Ulster University for their ongoing commitment to helping inter-county players as they try and balance their on-field activity with their academic endeavours.”
The scholarships are available for all post-graduate programmes on offer at UU.
