A revamped The Players Voice goes live
The Gaelic Players Association (GPA) is delighted to team up with Real Talks, founded by former Cavan footballer Alan O’Mara, to relaunch The Players Voice, a GPA podcast. The first episode of the new series is now live across Sound Cloud, Spotify and Apple Podcasts with GPA CEO Tom Parsons as Alan’s guest.
Tom speaks about his playing days with Mayo including the highs and lows, the devastation brought about by being dropped, dealing with a career threatening injury and how he learned to bring a better balance to his life allowing him to flourish both on the pitch and off. It is a must listen for all players trying to navigate the varying stages of being part of an inter-county panel.
The Players Voice will bring you new episodes every second Thursday during the season ahead. Clare cousins Seadna and Chloe Morey feature on episode number 2 (February 17th) as they speak about setting up a new business while holding down full time jobs and being part of the inter-county game. In episode 3 (March 3rd) Alan speaks to Donegal footballer Kate Keaney about her new role as a sports scientist with American women’s underage soccer and how the GPA Jim Madden Leadership Programme helped her in her career progression.
Speaking about the new series of The Players Voice, GPA Head of Communications Kieran McSweeney said; “The Players Voice is a great tool for us to speak to our members in an informative but at the same time entertaining way. That’s why we have partnered with Real Talks as Alan has the experience of allowing players the space to tell their stories while keeping a focus on the key areas that fellow players can learn from. Alan’s own background as a player and his own journey allows him to bring a great sense of understanding to the table.
“It should also be noted that while these are conversations with players and former players, they are about life as much as they are about the playing experience. From that perspective there is a lot in there for any supporter of our games or sport in general.”
Alan O’Mara added; “I am excited to partner with the Gaelic Players Association on The Players Voice podcast and take listeners inside the minds of authentic leaders. I passionately believe that players and supporters will benefit from hearing our featured guests discuss their life lessons, successes and challenges on the show.
“In my work with Real Talks I focus on performance and wellbeing, and I am inspired by players every day. I am delighted that the GPA, an organisation that had such a transformational impact on my life when I played for Cavan, have trusted me to connect with players and celebrate them as people.”
