Katie Quirke and Aoife Prendergast named the PwC GPA Women’s Player of the Month winners in football and camogie for June
Shane O’Donnell and Peadar Mogan named the PwC GAA/GPA Players of the Month in hurling and football for June
Cork’s Katie Quirke and Kilkenny captain Aoife Prendergast are the June winners of the PwC GPA Women’s Player of the Month awards for football and camogie, with Clare’s Shane O’Donnell and Donegal’s Peadar Mogan named the PwC GAA/GPA Hurler and Footballer of the Month respectively.
PwC are proud sponsors of the Player of the Month awards across camogie, hurling and football, both men’s and women’s. The June awards recognise the country’s top performers throughout this year’s final group games and early knock-out stages of the 2024 All-Ireland championships.
Katie Quirke played a key scoring role in two big wins for Cork as they secured a home All-Ireland quarter-final berth. She scored a goal and three points in a dominant 23-point win over Laois. In the subsequent victory over Galway there were just the two points between the teams with Quirke adding 0-7 to her name. Quirke will look to continue her scoring form against Waterford in the knock-out stages.
Although Clare could not overcome Limerick’s drive for six Munster titles in a row, Shane O’Donnell proved why he is one of the best hurlers in the country in securing his second PwC GAA/GPA Player of the Month award of the 2024 season. Eager to book a place in the final four, Clare bounced back with an impressive 12-point victory over Wexford. O’Donnell’s impressive solo goal along with four additional points turned the tide for the Banner County who take on Kilkenny in the penultimate round of this year’s Championship.
Aoife Prendergast put in a captain’s performance with four points in the opening half as Kilkenny eased to victory over Antrim. Following two convincing wins, Waterford proved to be a much tougher opponent but once again Prendergast stepped up with the crucial scores, this time to secure a draw. She scored 2-5 in a 22-point win over Derry to confirm a spot in the knockouts, while a further five points against Tipperary would not be enough to avoid defeat as her team finished second in their group.
June saw Peadar Mogan continue his terrific form with a point in a decisive victory over Clare. Mogan’s trademark speed led him to a man-of-the-match display with five points from play against Louth as Donegal booked a place in the All-Ireland semi-final against Galway. Mogan has undoubtedly stood out as one of Donegal’s biggest threats this season and collects the PwC GAA/GPA Player of the Month award for the second month in a row.
Enda McDonagh, Managing Partner, PwC Ireland, said: “The month of June has provided some amazing games across all codes. I would like to extend my congratulations to Shane, Aoife, Peadar, and Katie on being named the June Player of the Month award winners as they have stood out above the rest of their talented teammates with their incredible skills and passion on display.”
Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael, Jarlath Burns said; “It has been an incredible few weeks for Gaelic games across all of the championships, thanks in no small part to some stellar performances. The month of June was illuminated by the displays of both Shane O’Donnell and Peadar Mogan as Clare and Donegal both thrived in strong provincial campaigns in hurling and football respectively. Similarly, Katie Quirke and Aoife Prendergast shone for Cork and Kilkenny on the ladies football and camogie circuits.
“I congratulate them all and thank both the GPA and PwC for their cooperation in a partnership that acknowledges individual excellence in a team setting.”
GPA CEO Tom Parsons said; “As we approach the business end of the inter-county season, picking an award like this becomes all the more impressive. Outstanding individual performances contribute to a team making the closing stages of the championship and Aoife, Katie, Peadar and Shane have been key to how their respective teams have progressed this year. While I congratulate all 4 players, I can’t ignore Peadar’s achievement of winning for the second successive month and Shane’s second award win this season.
“My thanks as always to PwC and the GAA for their partnership in these awards.”
The PwC GPA Women’s Player of the Month and PwC GAA/GPA Players of the Month Award winners are voted for by the GPA’s membership.
