Gaelic Players Association members are being urged to consider applying for 4 scholarship opportunities available at Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) and to apply fast if they wish to avail themselves of the support.
The 4 scholarships are available to GPA members in postgraduate studies at TU Dublin, with a full list of courses available to be reviewed HERE.
Applicants must first have met the entry requirements for their chosen programme. They can then apply for the scholarship and will be assessed against a set of criteria agreed by the university and the players’ body.
Speaking to mark the opening of the application process GPA CEO Tom Parsons said, “We are delighted to grow our partnership with TU Dublin and make four of these valuable scholarships available to our membership. As we continue to help develop our members both on and off the field, we need the support of our educational partners. To that end, I wish to thank all at TU Dublin who have made this possible. Players really do appreciate your commitment to and support for them.
“I would ask our members to take a look at the courses available and set about starting the process to apply as soon as possible. We do not want them to miss out on this opportunity.”
Speaking at the announcement, Gaelic Games Development officer at TU Dublin Darragh Biddlecombe exclaimed: “Initiatives such as the TU Dublin GPA Scholarship allow the University to support elite athletes that want to compete at the highest level in their sporting lives and in Higher Education. We have an enviable and proud track record of success in providing this support, and TU Dublin looks forward to working and building on our relationship with the GPA to strengthen our reputation as a university that fosters sports talent at the highest level.”
Successful applicants will be known as TU Dublin GPA Scholars. As part of the scholarship support, TU Dublin/GPA Scholars will take part in promotional activity related to the university and its programmes while also taking on a mentoring role to either another elite sport student-athlete at undergraduate level or at an Open Day event for prospective students. They will also line out for the university teams where appropriate.
Previous TU Dublin/GPA Scholars include Wicklow hurler Peter Keane, Tipperary hurler Patrick Maher, Wexford Footballer Darragh Brooks and Derry Camogie player Therese Mellon.
Any members who would like to learn more about the educational supports available to them through the GPA should contact the GPA’s Education Manager Brian Howard – brian.howard@gaelicplayers.com.
