Last Friday, (23rd November) the Gaelic Players Association (GPA) launched their 2019 scholarship programme in conjunction with Dublin City University (DCU). The scholarships are jointly funded between DCU Business School and the GPA and offer financial assistance to GPA members to undertake DCU’s Executive MBA and Masters programmes.
Education is a huge focus for the GPA and approximately 520 members have received scholarships through the GPA in 2018. Of these, 65 students are in the DCU programme – and five of these are on enhanced scholarships, two of which are MBA students and three masters students. To date 35 GPA members have graduated from DCU after receiving enhanced scholarships through the organisation.
Speaking at the launch Paul Flynn, CEO of the GPA said, “I want to express my sincere thanks to President Brian MacCraith and the DCU scholarship team for overseeing the fantastic GPA/DCU scholarship programme here at the University. This is one of the most popular scholarship programmes that we are involved in, and our longest partnership with a 3rd level institution. The feedback from GPA members over the years on the DCU programmes has been uniformly and overwhelmingly positive.
With a range of full time masters scholarships available for GPA members we anticipate another year of record demand for courses at DCU. The demands on players have never been greater as the recent ESRI report has shown. And so it has never been more important than it is now for us to ensure that members have the kind of career support and training they need to ensure a bright career. That’s why scholarships like this are so integral to our player development programme.”
DCU has a global reputation as Ireland’s University of Enterprise, known for its strong links between academic, research and industry partners. DCU Business School proactively contributes to the development of individuals, industry and society and is recognised nationally and internationally for the first-class quality of its business education programmes.
