Yes and No.
The Irish jobs market is a completely different place to what it was. People were walking into jobs a year ago, now redundancies loom in some sectors. The market has changed from a sellers’ market (where applicants had a choice of potential employers) to a buyers’ a market (where employers are a lot more selective in their choices).
It’s not a bad idea coming home if you’re extremely well prepared and you’re not going after a sector where headcount is being slashed.
And if you do, you need to hone your interview technique. You’ll need to be clear on how you and your skills are going to solve the company’s problems and meet their needs. You need to be very specific on what you can do for them; that there are only upsides. If, over the last five years, you have been studying and developing yourself, see how these are relevant. Ensure that you’re continually showing your benefit to the company and that you know them inside out. You must not con, tell lies, or be unsure of how you solve their problems.
If you can’t do this, don’t come back, stay away and enjoy the weather.
