GPA ENHANCED INJURY SCHEME

From January 2011 senior inter-county players will be entitled to avail of the Enhanced Injury Scheme as part of the GPA Health and Wellbeing Programme.According to our extensive 2009 player survey, injury and medical services ranked highest in the list of priorities for GPA members and the Enhanced Injury Scheme will now deliver additional financial benefits and a more efficient claiming mechanism for inter-county players. Note: Benefits will be in addition to the current GAA Player Injury Scheme.

What is the Enhanced Injury Scheme?

  • An additional injury scheme that sits on top of the current GAA Player Injury Scheme
  • No extra cost to GPA member
  • Each claim will be tracked and managed by the GPA resulting in a swift settlement for each player
How  does it affect me?

There are two additional benefits for inter-county players in relation to playing and training with the county team:

  • An additional top up on irrecoverable loss of earnings from weeks 1-4 up to a maximum of €400
  • An additional payment of €1,500 for irrecoverable dental/medical expenses, bringing the maximum benefit to players to €6,000

How does it work?

  • The scheme will provide an additional expense payment to senior inter-county players, supplementing the existing GAA Player Injury Scheme
  • Nothing changes from current GAA Injury Scheme – same process applies but player must notify GPA as soon as claim form is sent to Co. Board
